History
It is the 15th temple in operation today, the sixth temple in Utah and the first in Utah County. It was dedicated on February 9, 1972. The dedicatory prayer was written by President Joseph Fielding Smith and was read by his first counselor, President Harold B. Lee. The Provo Utah Temple was originally a “sister-temple” of the Ogden Utah temple, built at the same time using the same circular design. The Ogden temple was rebuilt, using an entirely different plan and completed in 2014. The Provo temple remains as the only example of this architecture.
