It is the 137th temple in operation constructed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and it is the 2nd temple in the state of Missouri. However, there were three other temple sites dedicated in Missouri in the 1830s: Independence, Far West and Adam-ondi-Ahman. These temples were not built because of the exodus of the Saints from Missouri.
